11.18.2022 - The City of Sparta, Missouri, has acquired the property at 7509 State Highway 14, previously the site of the Sparta branch of Legacy Bank and Trust. The City purchased it at auction outright for $245,000.

Built in 1976, the property was the home of Legacy Bank until July 2022, when the branch relocated to a new facility just five blocks away. The auctioned site includes a 5,000 square foot building, a parking lot of over seventy spaces and a grass lot at the southwest corner.

The City of Sparta has ideas for how to use the site, which holds potential to house more local businesses with available space to lease and to serve as a community meeting place. However, the City is looking to residents for input. A town hall meeting will be held to assess community needs and discuss additional possible uses for the property.

“We encourage everyone to come and share their views with us during this event,” said Sparta Mayor Jenni Davis. “As we continually strive to enhance the lives of all of our citizens, we have amazing plans with the new acquisition, which I think will bring more business and attention to Sparta while maintaining our small town charm.”

The town hall meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29. More information on the precise location of the meeting will follow. All Sparta residents are invited to attend.
